Waiting for lambs

We have a five week window this year in which to lamb. The fist date we could have had lambs was the 10th March. Despite the lovely weather all of our ewes are still biding their time. A friend who ran his two southdown ewes with one of our rams has now had a set of triplets and a single lamb. The shetlands probably take a bit more persuading when confronted with the boys. The triplets and single all seem fine despite Schmallenberg virus and its complications being reported on farms around us. So we have our fingers crossed but are prepared for the worst.
All of the other livestock is well, enjoying the warm temperatures and longer days. The geese have just begun to lay eggs for the first time this year, in time to be painted for the village Spring Show on Saturday. I have high hopes for my Seville marmalade entry!
